After lying dormant for ten years, Lympstone Cricket Club was reborn last year with 20 villagers playing in five matches – it would have been eight but for rain. It was a trial year to see if there was enough support to keep the Club going. There is, although we didn’t win as many matches as we would have liked. But it’s early days yet! In 2007, we had a fixture list of 12, with ten 20-20 evening matches and two Sunday 40-40 matches. In 2008 we had 15 fixtures. Come and support us!
Our home ground is now the all-weather Withycombe cricket pitch, by the Archery Club and our first match there is on Thursday 4th June. We have also acquired a set of proper nets and we will start using them at Hayes Raleigh on Tuesday evenings starting sometime in April, depending on the weather.
We have a keen group of 20 players but we would love to have more. Contact me if you are interested! Annual membership fee is £5 for adult players and £3 for juniors (under 18). We practice in nets in Lympstone one evening a week – usually Tuesdays. Ask me for time and place if you want to join in or have a look at us.
The Club had no kit when we started last season. Some money was left over from 10 years ago with which we bought essentials, such as match balls. But due to lack of funds, we had to ask other clubs to give us stuff they were throwing out! So we have some rather tired pads and some spongy or cracked bats that don’t make scoring easy! Players match fees go on pitch hire.
If you would like to encourage us with a donation to buy some new bats and pads, that would be marvellous and a very great help and very much appreciated!
